Visually the game has seen a lot of improvements over the original and at times it can look great. The presentation side of the game is a bit hit and miss. I would however have liked to have skipped some certain conversations every now and then, but unfortunately that option doesn’t exist which surprised me a great deal. In fact I forgot how enjoyable the story was so it was nice to be reminded how interesting the characters are. When it comes to the story in the game then if you’ve never played it before you will find it very charming. It’s a shame really because when your traversing throughout the fantastic world the game can be quite fun, but the problems aren’t far behind. The controls and shooting mechanics in the game are without a doubt the game’s biggest shortcomings and these specific problems do nothing but frustrate you and this can be quite off putting. Don’t get me wrong it does still provide you with some enjoyable moments, but the shortcomings it has are just too much to deal with in this modern era. In order to make a remaster successful you have to address the problems that the original had, but unfortunately that isn’t the case here. These elements come together to create a package that's a pure joy to play through. Cutter Slade is an outrageous protagonist but he's lovable in his own way - the Nathan Drake of the 90's. The alien Talan feel like real people who you'll want to help and they live in a world that feels alive in a way even games like Skyrim do not. If you're looking for a modern masterpiece, this isn't it instead, Outcast trips back to a time when games were all about exploration and being absorbed in the world. Sure, the combat is horrific and there are other details that clearly show the game is dated, but it doesn't matter. Outcast was plucked straight out of 1999 and dropped into 2017, but in many ways it's better than what we have today.
