The main advantages of the ‘In Touch’ core are increased sensitivity through the length of the line and lower energy sapping stretch. I would put a lot of that down to the ‘In Touch’ low-stretch core because it’s a completely new beast in trout-sized fly lines. I can’t seem to find a rod that doesn’t get along with one. On my 3-weight rods, be it short- or standard-length, slow, medium or fast, glass or graphite, the line works very well and this is the thing that really sold me on the Perception. They’ve become the medication that keeps this fly-fishing madhouse together. Some rods are line fussy and some aren’t-no surprises there.ĭespite all this testing, I’ve recently come to the realisation that, outside of gear testing, all the floating lines I actually fish with, from 3-weight to 7-, are now RIO Perceptions.
In general, more supple, lighter lines seem to suit the slower rods, and the faster ones benefit from more aggressive and heavier tappers.
